Alex Awards

The Alex Awards, named for the pioneer of young adult library services Margaret A. Edwards, called "Alex" by her friends. Alex Awards are awarded annually by Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). The awards are given to 10 books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12-18. Awards are announced at the American Library Association midwinter meeting in January.

The Newbery Medal

 The Newbery Medal, named for British bookseller John Newbery, is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children. The award goes to the author of the most distingushed contribution to American literature for children. Awards are announced at the American Library Association midwinter meeting in January.

 The Geisel Award, named for Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel), is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children. The award goes to the  the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished American book for beginning readers published in English in the United States during the preceding year. Awards are announced at the American Library Association midwinter meeting in January.
