Middle School Volunteering: Home

Middle School Volunteer Program Overview

  • All volunteers with their parents or guardians must attend an initial orientation session before they can start volunteering at the Library. Volunteers are assigned one hour per week during the school year. Additional hours may be assigned during the summer vacation months.

  • There is a list of responsibilities that students complete once they arrive for their volunteer shift. Afterwards, there may be special projects that are assigned. Many of the responsibilities entail assisting the Children's Librarians in keeping the Children's Library functioning in a pleasant and orderly atmosphere. If scheduling allows, there are also opportunities to assist librarians with their children's programs. Summer volunteers are often assigned as assistants during our annual Summer activities.

  • The program is designed to offer middle school students a volunteer opportunity to work independently and responsibly.

  • Once an application is received, the Library will contact you via email to discuss orientation dates (quarterly in January, April, July, October) and possible start dates and times.

  • Most importantly, we thank students for their interest in volunteering with us at The Westport Library and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
