Fantasy is a huge genre, but most fantasy novels use highly imaginative world building along with supernatural/magical elements to create new settings where different kinds of stories can take place. Sometimes this means that our world has magic in it, or it could mean that there is a whole new world with different species and rules than our own.
Don't be afraid to read across age groups if something seems interesting to you.
