After nearly 30 years of catering to music lovers, musicians and those who have an affinity for vinyl records, Sally’s Place – a community staple since 1985 – closed its doors Friday for good. Tucked away on the second-floor of the building at 190 Main St., the music store was helmed by the beloved Sally White.
Known for her vast musical knowledge, White fell in love with the industry at an early age when she started working at Melody House. White later went on to work in the music department at Klein’s on Main Street for 20 years. After the store’s music department closed, White decided to open her own shop—and Sally’s Place was born.
For her years of service to the town, White was honored Thursday and presented with a commendation from Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff.
“In recognition of her long-standing dedication and outstanding service to the citizens of Westport and to music lovers everywhere, the town of Westport today honors and pays tribute to Sally White, longtime owner of Sally’s Place,” the commendation reads.
“Sally’s knowledge and love for music has had an enormous impact on hundreds of Westporters— the young and the not-so-young.
“In grateful recognition of her contributions to the town of Westport and to music lovers everywhere, we wish Sally joy, peace and the satisfaction of a career well spent.” Continue reading from Daily Voice
