The Address

...before it's been published.

I have always been fascinated by the Dakota and Fiona Davis did a wonderful job of offering a small glimpse into the early days using it as the setting for a classic story of love, loss and betrayal traveling between the late 1880s and the 1980s and the fate of one family. Very little of the novel is based on actual history, but it is a good read and of course, an interesting choice for the story's setting. For a more detailed fictional look at the Dakota- I recommend the classic Jack Finney novel Time and Again. 4 stars!

-- Kelle

Big Kids

...with pictures in it.

A surrealist coming-of-age graphic novel that recalls the sensations of dawning adolescence with uncommon clarity. It pushed the limits of what I thought was possible to convey through drawn abstraction--car sounds and aromas, for example--while remaining accessible and easy to follow. This is not a nostalgic piece; the narrator lays out the good and the ugly with an even hand, never flinching. I would recommend this to anyone with a taste for the odd--and I'd recommend it to everyone else, too, just to find out what they thought of it. 5 stars!
