The appointment schedule is as follows: Town Hall (call 203-341-1050 for appointment): Mondays, Jan 30 – April 17 (except Feb. 20 Presidents Day) 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Center for Senior Activities (call 203-341-5099 for appointment) Wednesdays, Feb. 1 – April 12, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Thursdays, Feb. 2 – April 13, 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m
Federal and State Tax Assistance: AARP's Tax-Aide Program , a partnership between the AARP Foundation and the Internal Revenue Service, provides free tax counseling and preparation services to middle-and low-income taxpayers, with special attention to people age 60 and older.
The United Way of Fairfield County offers free tax prep services year round, however the regular tax season will begin on January 20 and end on April 15, 2016. Staff and volunteers are IRS Certified to prepare and file tax returns. Office hours vary so please call ahead at 740-653-0643 to schedule an appointment.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers free tax help for low-to moderate-income people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Volunteers, sponsored by various organizations, receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations. Some locations also offer free electronic filing.
